Season’s greetings from the most powerful city on earth, Arlington, Virginia. It’s a magical time, with New Years’ fast approaching there’s still one last chance to do all those things you’re trying to abstain from in the coming year, and a few more days to put off those life-changing projects/life decisions earmarked for that mythical year, 2003, aka the End of Days + 3 years.

But, to paraphrase my good friend, Mr. Toby Keith (with whom I once shared several cocktails at Madams’ Organ in Adams Morgan), enough about you, let’s talk about me!

The Sherpa Underground goes into the new year with, outside of myself, 0 original members. Ken Hess has taken over on the bass, Leah “Guitar” Morgan is still on piano, until she becomes a big rock star on her own and leaves us, like they all do, and on drums, our good friend, (insert name here). If the name sounds familiar, it should. S/he used to play for (defunct local band) which won a handful of Wammies in the late 90s. But we all know that (insert name here) can be sort of unreliable, so in the meantime we’re importing Greg Roth from Pennsylvania to do that step in thing he does so well.

Things to look forward to in the months ahead, a big New York show this weekend, the Elvis Costello tribute night in early January is shaping up very nicely, featuring performances by 10-12 of the area’s finest singer/songwriters paying homage to one of our all-time favorites … and in February the college shows start. Also looking forward to a second annual appearance at the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg. Last time we ended up opening for a polka band. This year??? Also in January, I’m going to compose and record music for a short film by Toronto filmmaker, Jeff Strebinger.

As always, please continue checking the site because shows and crucial pieces of info do occasionally pop up on short notice. More importantly, I truly do determine my sense of worth based on the number of hits the site gets. Some days are good days, some days, not so good. Such is the teeter-totter of life.

Having now shared too much, I wish you all a happy and healthy new year. See you this weekend in New York or later on somewhere else. May we all be glue-free in ’03!
